Visit from East Lothian MP and Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander

On Friday 7 November, attendees at the John Bellany Centre were delighted to receive a visit from local East Lothian MP and Secretary of State for Scotland Douglas Alexander. While enjoying their freshly prepared lunch of fish, chips, and peas, Mr Alexander met with day centre attendees chatting about the activities they like to enjoy, thanking staff for providing such an excellent service and facility.

Day centres are often a vital lifeline for older people, especially those who live alone. Visits once, twice or three times a week, provide opportunities for companionship them to engage in social activities, receive fresh meals, and engage in the local community.

However they are much more than just a social space, they are essential for those with complex needs, such as mobility issues, dementia, or long-term health conditions to help individuals maintain their independence for as long as possible, and provide essential breaks for carers.
